The music video for Toxic begins with a scene of several birds flying in front of a futuristic airplane in the sky. The camera moves for shots inside the aircraft and reveals Spears to be a flight attendant. She answers a phone call, dances provocatively with her trolley and spills wine on a man's trousers (and then proceeds to clean up her mess), before moving on to an overweight man standing in the path eating a sandwich; she then abandons her trolley to push him into the facilities, and locks the door with both of them inside. The two begin kissing, in which Spears pulls the face of the man off, revealing a supermodel's face beneath in the person of model/actor Matt Felker. They continue making out, and while the man is distracted from their actions, Spears steals a key from him.
Spears is on the streets of Paris in the next part of the video, wearing a black pleather catsuit, sporting wavy red hair, waiting to be picked up. Her transportation (shirtless supermodel Tyson Beckford who is riding a red Ducati 999 motorcycle) arrives, and the pair drive off to Spears' destination, a factory owned by "Toxic Industries Inc". She uses the key she stole from the man on the airplane to enter a room that contains toxin. After stealing the toxin, Spears exits the building, but not before having to pass through a series of security measures, including eruptions of fire and rotating glass wheels.
Following the adventure, Spears climbs up the wall of a building. Now adorned in a type of superhero costume with black hair, she enters the apartment of her former lover, played by New Zealand actor Martin Henderson. They begin to make out, but for Spears, this is only a distraction so that she can use the toxin she stole to murder the man. She plants a kiss on his face, and then jumps off the edge of the building, and lands in the airplane that the video originally began in, winking at the camera before returning to her duties as a flight attendant. The video closes as it began, with birds flying behind the aircraft. Spears is also shown throughout the video against a solid white background with hundreds of diamonds glued to her body, wearing only a g-string.
The video was nominated in 4 categories at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards, including Video Of The Year, but didn't win any of them. Through "Toxic" was chosen as the Video of the year in MTV's TRL and others TV music countdown shows.

Who is Jahnavi?

As wedding bells resounded in the Bachchan residence, Jahnavi Kapoor decided to seek out her own 15 minutes of fame — by claiming that dulha Abhishek had betrayed her after promises of marriage. In full media glare, she slit her wrists and now, is charged with attempt to suicide under Section 309 of IPC.

So, who is Jahnavi? A small-time model and dancer, Jahnavi shared screen space with Jr B in a promotional song for the film Dus. Also, she was once married to Kalbe Hussain, son of Kalbe Sadiq, the senior VP of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.

Says Sadiq, "It was against our wishes that this marriage took place in 1997. But we accepted her in our family. However, her wayward ways soon emerged — she'd come home late at night, often drunk." Finally, he says, in 2000, Hussain divorced her and Jahnavi moved to Mumbai "as she was always running after glamour." What's more, she also has an eight-year-old son Ali who lives with his nani in Srinagar.

Meanwhile, when the song with Abhishek was being shot, Jahnavi was given a part. Says the choreographer Bosco, "I remember her well, although she wasn't a significant dancer. I'm sure whatever she's saying now is for publicity. Abhishek wouldn't even remember her."

Most of those who know Jahnavi seem to have no idea about her claim of an affair with Abhishek. But yes, they do know about her addictions. "She is a drug addict and a alcoholic," says Simran Dhawan, a fellow dancer.

We were happy together

HE wedding went off in style. But not before a young starlet caused a shock earlier in the day.

The young woman slit her wrists outside the Bachchan home in Mumbai yesterday morning, hours before the long-awaited union of Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and AishwaryaRai.

Identifying herself as Jhanvi Kapoor, she claimed Abhishek had promised to marry her after they met when she was a dancer in a promotional music video for a movie Dus (Ten) that Abhishek starred in two years ago.

Jahanvi told the media that she was Abhishek's girlfriend and they had an affair for 10 months before Aishwarya came into the scene.

According to her, she and Abhishek would meet regularly and 'were really happy' as a couple. She claimed that Abhishek had promised to marry her.

'I no longer want to live as Abhishek has ditched me and is getting married to Aishwarya,' said Jahanvi.

'Abhishek is not talking to me. He should talk to me,' she told reporters, her left wrist heavily bandaged.

However, further investigations by the media revealed that Jahanvi is a Muslim, whose real name is Sayeeda Haya Fatima, reported Zee News.

She was married to Kalbe Hussain, son of well-known Shia cleric Kalbe Sadiq, in April 1997 at Lucknow in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Reports also suggest that she has a 10-year-old son from her marriage.

When asked about her earlier marriage, Jahanvi denied being married to Hussain and insisted that she had in fact married Abhishek Bachchan in a secret ceremony in December last year.

However, when asked for a photograph or any other proof of the wedding, she refused, saying: 'When you love someone, you don't need proof.'

She also alleged that for Abhishek's love, she gave up offers of several key projects in Bollywood.

While blaming Aishwarya for her breaking their 'relationship', Jahanvi said: 'Aishwarya decided to produce Umrao Jaan only to get cosy with Abhishek and snatch him away from me.'

There seemed to be holes in her story as Aishwarya did not produce thefilm.

She also alleged that Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, a close ally of the Bachchans, had threatened to kill her and even sent his men to ransack her car.

She was arrested by the police after a case of 'attempted suicide' was lodged against her. They said she was 'mentally disturbed'.

They added that she was a struggling fashion model and TV channels reported she received 40 stitches.

Later, a metropolitan magistrate`s court granted bail to Jahanvi for 10,000 rupees ($360).

Earlier, she was taken to Cooper Hospital for medical tests as police suspected she was under the influence of narcotic drugs.

Yesterday's wedding ceremony climaxed three days of festivities. The who's who of India's rich and famous, including movie stars, top industrialists and politicians, graced the occasion.

At 5pm (7.30pm, Singapore time), Abhishek arrived on a white horse, with his young nephew in front.

Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai had arrived earlier in a grey Mercedes with her mother.

Hundreds of fans cheered as Abhishek, wearing a gold and cream turban - his face covered with a traditional veil of white flowers- emerged onto the streets outside his home astride the white stallion.

As the accompanying band played popular songs from his movies like Kajra Re, he waved to fans and onlookers gathered outside his home.

He rode his horse for the short trip to his parents' home - Prateeksha - where the wedding took place.

When Aishwarya's car pulled into the house a posse of security guards surrounded the vehicle so that the media could not get a glimpse of the bride.

Aishwarya's brother Aditya followed in another car while the rest of her family arrived in a Volvo bus.

The male members of Abhishek's entourage wore saffron turbans and the women were clad in richly embroidered saris in dazzling colours.

Ready for some Bheja Fry?

How witty a name is Bheja Fry? Does the quirkiness come through in the title only, or is it about Milind Soman’s Johnny Depp meets Don Juan DeMarco hairstyle that provides just the right indicator for a rollicking good time?

Even if we were joking about the latter comment, surely Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey won’t let you miss one single joke once they fill the screens this Friday. Or have we seen it all before… new directors poised to hit the marquee with their fresh new spin on quirkiness. Hang on, did we say fresh?

Curiously, first-time directors like Homi Adajania (Being Cyrus), Dibakar Banerjee (Khosla Ka Ghosla) and Saket Chaudhary (Pyaar Ke Side Effects) had also relied on comedy (black or otherwise) when directing their first time, middle-of-the-road ventures, roping in a select group of faces as the lead cast.

So, what is it about these laugh-a-minute gags that increasingly make new-age directors veer towards the predictable?

Sagar Ballary, director of Bheja Fry, feels much has to do with the logistics and resources made available to the debutant director. “Understandably, nobody would trust the newcomer with huge sums of money. At the same time one has to choose a subject, which is commercially viable. The breakthrough was achieved once Khosla Ka Ghosla fared well at the box-office… it opened up the market for new filmmakers to come into the fold. Producers began to trust them,” says Ballary.

However, to gain the trust of the audience something else is required, which filmmaker Saket Chaudhary says, comes in the guise of a comedy.
“I think it makes more commercial sense to reel a comedy. The humour will at least ensure that the audience has a good time. At times films will be repetitive but then this young bunch is regularly toying with innovative ideas. In the long run you’ll see genuine talent shine through.”

Leena Yadav, who actually chose a drama, Shabd, over comedy (“It is quite scary to direct a comedy. What if the audience does not laugh at the right moments.”), maintains that these films actually reflect the personality and style of the filmmakers.

“It’s also about making statements… you get to understand the individual mindset of each director. So regardless of the paucity of budget or the lack of stars, an initial at the box office is guaranteed. Somehow comedy finds its audience,” says Yadav.

The reason according to producer Sunil Doshi, who’s Handmade Films had earlier produced Mixed Doubles, can be “attributed to the stressful times that we are living in. We are going through a transition period and youngsters have found a method to express it. They are making fresh, young, hip films which comment on social realities.”

To make the difference felt, Yadav says that good performers are needed to carry forward the message, especially in comedies. And unanimously, directors have chosen Ranvir Shorey and Vinay Pathak as the face of the new wave comedy film.

“They have become leading brands now. Producers feel that they’ll get their money’s worth if they cast Ranvir and Vinay. The audiences also feel assured. The question of fatigue does not arise here since they blend in well with each character they portray,” says Chaudhary.

That faith comes across when Ballary proclaims in the promotions — “If you have not watched Bheja Fry you have laughed less this year.”

Vikram Bhatt’s latest venture Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee is yet another potential story laid to waste at the altar of bad treatment and shallow imagination. A wannabe philosophical film full of wannabe characters and stars, it’s only salvation is its pace. The events in the film roll so fast that one is not left with any time to react or judge. Sadly, the film then tumbles over itself, forcing the audience not only to think and judge but also laugh in the process. And not in a good way.

The film is a story of five friends out to conquer happiness according to their own definition of the term. Rajiv Arora (Dino Morea), brother of a business tycoon thinks it is success. Monica Seth (Nauheed Cyrusi), an aspiring actress thinks it is fame. Sameer Dattani (Jai Gokhale), a wannabe politician thinks it is power and Anjori Alagh (Ishita) thinks it is money. We don’t quite know what the one left out of this race, Manish Gupta (Aftab Shivadasani), a budding writer, really thinks about it. But then we don’t really feel like asking either. The film is an exploration into how the five find the true meaning of happiness. Sounds insightful (almost spiritually!) and extremely interesting.

The film begins on an interesting note with Aftab’s book getting an award for originality and he denying it is so. What follows is the flashback told from the point of view of Aftab who becomes a sort of narrator of the film and the idea of happiness. The first half actually makes you sit up and take notice of the rush of events happening in all the five friend’s lives. The audience is waiting for the climax after the decent build-up and that’s where everything goes haywire. Chaos becomes the order with hurried events snowballing the film towards an expected climax.

Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee is based completely on stereotypes and that is why even a fast-paced screenplay is not able to save it. The story is full of commonly held perceptions of the relationship between happiness and life, which are not all-pervading, leave alone definitive, in reality. In it’s exploration of five friends struggling to find happiness it explores high-profile careers and worlds in an extremely shoddy fashion, which reeks of a casual attitude of the makers to the film. The production values of ‘Page 3’ (Something that this film reminds you of constantly) were bad as well but the performances and story-telling made the film above-average. Besides, it had a strong and sensible message. Here, sadly there is nothing of that sort.

Performances are nothing to write home about. Aftab is as good as he can be in a limited role and unexplored character. The guy is not a store-house of talent but he is definitely not like the rest. Koel Purie is strictly OK except for her scrawny look and and nerve-grating voice. Dino Morea, Anuuj Saxena, Sameer Dattani, Nikita Anand and Nauheed Cyrusi all try hard to act. But fail, the fault not being theirs alone. Seems like Vikram Bhatt has made this film at breakneck speed and like we said earlier, a casual attitude.

Music is completely ignorable and the sound design makes you wish it were. There are terrible, over-emphasized noises and mismatched vocal decibel levels to the on-screen performers. Cinematography is average and so are costumes. The art direction is completely misguided with a poor man’s (Aftab) house looking fab and a corporate award function looking drab. Editing by Aarief Sheikh, is something else that saves the film... well kind of.
The film is basically an effort of confused presentation. Either the makers really believe in what they have portrayed (which is tough to understand due to the lack of conviction), or they just don’t know. At times it feels it is trying to please all sections of society and claim critical acclaim too. Well…
In one word. Tacky. Watch it at your own risk.

Cheeni Kum - A Sugar Free Comedy

Buddhadev Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) is a 64 year old chef and owner of London's top Indian restaurant. He lives with his 85 year old mother and his only best friend being his 9 year old neighbour.

Mr Gupta is an arrogant, egoistic, pompous man with a singular passion in life - cooking.

He has been a bachelor all these years and has never been in love until Nina Verma (Tabu), a 34 years old, walks into his restaurant and into his life.

Nina is a beautiful and a charming woman. Cool, calm, and always smiling, she is independent and strong willed by nature.

So, two extremes in age, character and attitude meet and against all odds, fall in love. The couple decide to get married. And, like any man, Mr Gupta respectfully comes to ask Nina's father for her hand.

But there is a problem. Mr. Verma, Nina's father is 58 years old and 6 years younger than Mr Gupta, his would be son-in-law.

The indoor scenes of the movie have been shot in Mumbai's Film City and Qutub Minar in New Delhi whilst the out door shoot took place in London last summer.

Mr Bachchan will be seen with a ponytail in Cheeni Kum. According to the director, it was a requirement for Mr Bachchan's character.

Mr Bachchan will also be seen in a similar role where an aged man is in love with a teenager. The film titled, Nishabd, is directed by Ram Gopal Verma.

Cheeni Kum acts as a debut vehicle for director Balkrishnan who has been an advertising executive. He describes Cheeni Kum as a sarcastic love story between the two lead characters.

Music director, Ilaiyaraaja, has composed the musical score for the movie. This film marks his Bollywood comeback after a long break.

If you are looking for that one film that takes you completely by surprise this year, then look no further.

Hat Trick has been wrongly projected as a cricket film. In truth it's as much about cricket as about hats.

But honestly hats off to the producers UTV, the director Milan Luthria and writer Rajat Aroraa for displaying such an enormously enterprising spirit.

Unlike some other films that push the envelope Hat Trick doesn't get self-indulgently didactic or ham-handed. The narrative, segregated into three nimble and endearing slices of life, never fails to entertain.

Not for a second does Luthria let go of that mellow momentum that secludes the also-rans from the must-runs.

Hat Trick must work at the boxoffice. It doesn't flounder even once in telling its story of lives that barely crisscross and yet come together in a collective clasp celebrating life at its most basic and elemental level. The homilies spill out willnilly from Rajat Aroraa's acerbic and energetic words which often say a lot more than they seem to.

Of the three stories in the film which one do I single out for its dazzling display of of keen showmanship? Let's see… The one about a Gujarati janitor in London ( played by a flawlessly in-character Paresh Rawal) and his journey in London from ignorant racism to poignant patriotism is mapped with the mellowness of a supple symphony played at the middle octave by an orchestra that knows its job.

Yes, there's a load of wisom here. But never thrust into the narrative. The leaps of profundity come out of a genuine feeling of camaraderie between the script and its treatment.

The second story about a bond that grows between a surly doctor (Nana Patekar) and a veteran cricketer (Danny Denzongpa) is very 'Munnabhai' in content. It nevertheless leaves a lasting impression, thanks to the vividly written words about the connection between life and laughter, giving and attaining nirvana.

In brief, this slice-of-life segment makes a penetrating comment on the doctor-patient relationship and, yes, a hug can really go far, provided you let it.

The third story about a Sikh cricket fan (Kunal Kapoor) and his newly wedded wife 's sudden obsession for Dhoni is wackily life-life, filled with a kind of kinetic comicality and spinnig sensuousness. Watch Kunal with his adrenaline-charged performance take this segment to heights of hilarity.

There have been a number of episodic films recently. But none so audacious and enchanting, precocious and poignant, intense and blithe….Hat Trick is like a blind date at the movies where you discover that the partner to be far more engaging than you expected.

Go for it, wholeheartedly.

Provoked

In Irish novelist Roddy Doyle's The Woman Who Walked Into Doors, the battered wife Paula keeps justifying her bruises by saying she as a habit walks into closed doors and hurts herself.

The battered wife Kiranjit in Jagmohan Mundhra's jolting expose on domestic values never gets a chance to walk in or out of that closed London door where she lives with her brutal husband. She chooses her husband's death over own exit.

It's amazing how the true-life Kiranjit Ahluwalia found freedom by setting her brutal husband on fire. In one of the film's most sensitively delineated dialogues, Kiranjit says to her rather overly benign prison mates, "I've never felt freer in my life."

What sort of trauma would it take for a woman to feel free in prison? Provoked answers the complicated question of domestic disharmony with a deft and direct approach to the question of a woman's place in the man's scream of things.

The intermittent flashbacks showing Kiranjit's spousal nightmare, cut deep and hard into the narrative. Full credit to Aishwarya Rai for plunging deep into a part that she plays straight from her heart.

True, at times she looks too pretty to be ravaged. But the vulnerable, fragile little-girl-lost quality in her personality works to great advantage in portraying the spouse-burning victim as a woman scorned beyond endurance.

There're moments in the narrative where Rai melts your heart like an ice-cream cone left out in the sun for too long.

Madhu Ambat's cinematography is so sweeping in its specificity, it creates a spatial bond between the protagonist's heart and her hostile-to-compassionate surroundings. Mundhra and Sanjay Mirajkar have edited the harsh material with extreme economy of expression. The film moves mercilessly forward leaving no room for a breather.

Among the unforgettable sequences, count the one where the stern lady constable asks Kiranjit to take off her jewellery and clothes. Kiranjit pleads in hushed anguish, "Never take clothes off in front of husband."

Aishwarya's inherent inhibitions give the character a mocking edge. How could this petal-tender woman set her husband on fire? Imagine the levels of torture she must have suffered!

Blessedly we are shown only fragments of Kiranjit's trauma. Director Mundhra makes sure they are enough to make us wince without making our stomachs churn.

Cleverly but tenderly formated as a thriller- in- flashback, Provoked opens with the burning figure of Deepak Ahluwalia (Naveen Andrews) running screaming out of his house.

Mundhra moves smoothly backwards into events leading to this gruesome incident.

Female bonding has always been a favourite theme in his films (remember Shabana Azmi and Deepti Naval in Kamla?). In Provoked the bond that develops between Kiranjit and her cell mate Veronica (played by Vanessa Redgrave's daughter Miranda Richardson with supreme sunniness) is remarkably well-tuned to the sisters'-solidarity theme that forms the narrative's backbone.

Nandita Das is also in fine form as a spunky 'sister' activist holding up a torch for the torched husband's tortured wife. Every actor in the smallest role gets it right…and bright.

Naveen Andrews's despicable brutality as the husband makes your skin crawl, as it's meant to.

But the film clearly belongs to Aishwarya. She gets a grip on her character Kiranjit's predicament with a fluid grace, her large swimming-pool eyes brimming over with untold grief as she pleads with her lawyers, 'Please let me see my children.'

Children, alas cannot see what Kiranjit goes through. Maybe they should though. Next time they see Mummy with that black eye they'd know she didn't walk into that door.

Shaka Laka Boom Boom

Strange things happen in this tale of two ditties, sung by two utterly unlikable musicians who are as megalomaniacal as they are unworthy of our attention.

When Kangana playing a ping-pong to the locked horns, decides to succumb to the senior musician's sexual advances, she decides to strip right there in the hallway with the valet looking down at his feet.

We second the valet's emotion.

You watch this laugh triangle with a deep sense of embarrassment and regret. This could have been the comprehensive film about the sense of noisy competitiveness that destroys the very core of creativity.

Bobby is the senior musician who gets jealous of the insufferable new kid on the block who is so smug he re-defines the whole cult of cockiness….

The whole tussle of ego between the junior and senior musician (replete with reams and reams of musical notes that dance up and down on the musical scale like a heart monitor gone awry.) echoes the rivalry between Salieri and Amadeus with bits and pieces of life's less spoken drama turned into a cacophobic celebration of envy and pride decorated in colours so garish they could make you blind, if you haven't gone deaf with all the noise that Himesh Reshammiya, Viju Shah (background score) and, surprise surprise, Anurag Kashyap hurl at us in split-second resonances echoing the banshee of a bleeding heart that can't tell the difference between agony and ecstacy.

Surprisingly for a film so steeped in high-drama there's little graph or motivation to the characters. The crucial jealousy and rivalry between the senior and junior musician is dealt with in a few lengthy sequences which are written in the style of random episodes from long-running soap operas.

The morality –play gets confusing not only for the lack of an even pitch, but also because the two heroes seem to be interchangeable in their obnoxious self-regard.

Bobby conveys some pop-angst in some of the scenes. But most of the time he's grappling for a graph.

Upen Patel has a strongly-written role, a strong jaw line, but alas little to match his embarrassingly high confidence level. He messes up his resonant role with a double dose of self-confidence that makes him look like a cross between a dancing gigolo and a screaming drunkard.

Kangana Ranaut so watchable in her earlier films, looks shockingly lost and washed-out here. Wrong make-up, wrong motivations, wrong film, lady!

Celina Jaitley, playing a journalist who sleeps with anyone she writes about (wow, the pen is mightier than the penis) acts mostly with her cleavage, the rest of her being as brain dead as Bobby at the end of the long film when a big ball breaks on Bobby's bobbing head and everything goes…..boom! Voila, that's when the film's cryptically snazzy title is finally explained.

The marginal characters which includes Bobby's two side-kicks Asrani and Vivek Vaswani, his music- baron boss Dalip Tahil and his over-sexed wife (Seema Rahmani) who comes on to Bobby so strongly, you've to be a cretin to miss her intentions.

Suneel Darshan probably means well. Though considering the ritzy mess he has created, we can't tell.

Mujhe English Nahi Aati: Kangana

The making of Shaka Laka Boom Boom hasn't been a very happy experience either for its director Suneel Darshan or his leading lady Kangana Ranaut

From Day 1, the two appeared to have a compatibility issue, culminating in what appeared to be an unresolvable face-off when Kangana's voice was dubbed in another voice which sounds suspiciously like the film's supporting actress Celina Jaitley!

"It does sound like Celina, that's what my sister and my best friend seem to think," laughs Kangana. "I've no clue who it is. All I know is, that isn't my voice with my face in the film."

Apparently the Gangster girl had a clue about what was in store only a week before release. "I hadn't dubbed my entire portion. When I kept asking Suneel-ji's production house about the remaining dubbing they wouldn't reply. Then I knew what was in store,"says Kangana.

But Suneel Darshan has another story to tell. "I don't do anything that's not contractually specified. And I certainly don't do anything underhand. Beyond that I don't wish to comment on Kangana and her dubbing at all."

Suneel does admits that the dubbing had to be done by another artiste. "I needed a particular twang and accent for Kangana's character. If she had given the film the time and attention that it deserved we'd have worked on her character's language. Alas, Kangana didn't think Shakala Laka Boom Boom was important enough."

Replies Kangana, "What can I do if I don't speak the King's or Queen's English? I am from a small town and proud of it. In fact I'm the most comfortable speaking in Hindi.

I am a Hindi actress and unlike some of my colleagues who need to write out their dialogues in the Roman script I write read and speak the rashtra bhasha very well. In fact at an awards function in Malaysia last week I gave my thank -you speech in Hindi which was much appreciated."

She says she's proud of the whole Shaka Laka Boom Boom experience. "If Suneel-ji thinks I didn't give the film the attention it deserved then I apologize to him. To me Shaka Laka is as precious as Gangster and WohLamhe and Metro that releases next."

'Salman never did anything for me'

Katrina currently basking in the positive reviews for her portrayal of the British Asian Punjabi girl in Namastey London has an extra reason to be happy. On the sets of her new film Race Katrina has found a chess partner.

"Thank God, Saif is an avid chess player like me. Whenever the camera is switched off we play chess. Over here in India nobody plays chess. Earlier I persuaded my sister. I had to virtually bribe people to play chess with me," says the London-born girl who has found the perfect part of Londoner in Namastey London so early in her career.

"When Vipul offered me the role I wasn't very sure I could pull it off. Once I was on he gave me the freedom to interpret the character how I wanted. That really helped me to come to grips with my character's language and personality.

And then to hear some reviewer in Mumbai comment that I pronounce 'yatch' wrongly. Hello! This is probably some guy who has spent his life in Mumbai. I lived in London and know how to speak like young Indians out there. I've a good mind to dash off a letter to him."

In fact one of Katrina's chief attractions in doing Namaste London was that she had the chance to finally dub her own lines. "But you won't believe this, I finally wanted to chicken out of dubbing my own lines. I lost nerve. I had this lengthy 45-minute discussion with Vipul convincing him why I couldn't dub.

He heard me out quietly. I think secretly he had decided I'd do the dubbing. I finally relented. But I made the sound recordist's life miserable. He finally told me to get out of the recording studio and return only during my next film. Thankfully it's turned out well now."

She sighs and gets dreamy. "I hope Namastey London works. I'm tired of waiting for my films to work. I know I'm only three films old and my first film Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya was quite a success. But I still haven't been able make a place for myself."

She's unnecessarily grateful to Akshay Kumar for agreeing to do Namastey London with her. "Not too many actors in his position would want to do a female-oriented subject. But Akshay had absolutely no qualms. I like that."

Surprisingly Katrina had more off-camera fun with Akshay shooting their other film Humko Deewana Kar Gaya. "People are talking about the compatibility visible between us in Namastey… but it was the other film where we really had all the fun. In Namastey… Vipul and I had more fun.

This time with Akshay was equally enjoyable but a far more serious business. Off-camera we were discussing scenes, getting our stance right, and so on."

Katrina and her director Vipul have now established a gratifying comfort zone between them. "Before the film released I'd ask him the same question twenty times. I guess I was just nervous. Vipul would patiently answer the first few times and then cut me short saying, 'The answer isn't going to change, no matter how many times you ask me.'

Next, Katrina has just signed on the dotted line for Subhash Ghai's new directorial venture Main Yuvraj where she's paired with beau Salman.

People would presume Katrina bagged the role through Salman's recommendation. "To think Salman got me Subhash Ghai's film is ridiculous especially when I have Namastey London to my credit now. Actually I met Subhashji long before.

He had offered me a film. I think it was Kisna. He asked Vipul Shah to show him my work in Namastey London before finalising me for Main Yuvraj. That's how I think he decided on casting me," says Katrina.

Trying to curb her annoyance about the allegation that Salman is responsible for her professional progress, Katrina says, "Do people think Subhashji is the kind of filmmaker who would listen to others before signing an actor? He would only sign an actor who suits the role and has always gone by what is right for his film."

Katrina will also be seen in Anil Sharma's Apne. "Though my co-star in the film is Bobby Deol I'm completely captivated by Sunny Deol. He's the hero I've watched in my growing years. Whenever he's on the sets I'm totally tongue-tied."

Jiah Khan is not revealing yet!

Jiah Khan, the young teenage star of the dud called 'Nishabd' was missing from the scene for a while. And now, the news has come that she is on a break in London.

Her video 'Take Lite' which she has sung, written the lyrics and choreographed her own belly dancing steps like Shakira, is also creating waves.

She is in London to spend time with her sister who is settled there. But a little birdie informs that Jiah besides living it up in London has also been training in Tai chi & motor cycle stunts for her next film which she has signed.

But Jiah is not revealing yet as she is under contract.

When asked about her deliberate silence about her next film, Jiah just laughs: "Hey, I' m having great fun in London. I'm just chilling out. I'm glad that my debut performance has been appreciated. Let me have some fun before I focus completely on my next film."

Last we saw you in Don, what prompted you to make a sensational appearance in the forthcoming KYA LOVE STORY HAI?
Actually the film's director Lovely Singh is a very close friend. I've known him since Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. Doing the song was a gesture of love and friendship.

And when he explained the concept to me and I heard the song I knew it was going to be a rocking number. I loved it. I've worn the most glamorous clothes, driven a limo and strummed a 25-feet guitar! It doesn't get better!

How was it facing the camera after a year?
What a coincidence! I began my break last year after completing the dance number for Don, and now I have ended my break again with a dance number for Kya Love Story Hai! I was away purely out of choice because I needed to relax and unwind, but now it feels great to be doing what I have always loved doing.

Did you contribute to the song in any way?
Since I am playing myself in the song, I told Lovely that I would not go overboard on the glamour front with any itsy-bitsy costumes. It was my idea to perform in jeans and gorgeous gowns.

Otherwise, it has been the team work of music director Pritam, choreographer Bosco, my dress designer Manish Malhotra, the director Lovely Singh, and Alisha China who has lent her golden voice to this number.

Did you imagine what a huge craze It's Rocking from Kya Love Story Hai would become?
I'm not surprised, when I first heard it, I loved it!

Personally what kind of music do you listen to?
My all time favourites are the old classics from films like Aawara, Chori Chori etc. It's Rocking actually has references to the erstwhile hit, Ude Jab Jab Zulfein Teri!

What are your expectations from your sensational appearance in Kya Love Story Hai?
There are no expectations except that I can experiment with some really glamorous looks. It is a good balance after doing films like Chameli and Omkara where I am deglam. And then there is the additional high of knowing that millions of people out there are going to dance to my moves!

Tell us about your forthcoming projects?
Imtiaz Ali's film with Shahid as my co-star is one I am excited about, then I have Yash Chopra's next with Akshay and Saif, and there is Mani Ratnam's Lajjo with Aamir Khan.

What is the secret of your slim-as-a-reed figure?
I begin the day by doing yoga and that has really helped! And thanks to Shahid (Kapoor) I have turned a vegetarian which has further enhanced my physique!

Fashion Designer Anand Jon Released on Bail

Famed Indian fashion designer Anand Jon, who was charged last month with multiple counts of sexual assault (I-W, Mar. 23), was released from detention by an immigration court April 2, although Custody Officer Stewart of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed to India-West that Jon was originally released on Mar. 26 from the Los Angeles County Jail.

Jon was being held in lieu of $1.3 million bail, but Beverly Hills attorney Ronald Richards was able to win Jon's freedom after claiming that a detention hold on his client by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency was improper.

According to a press release dated April 2 on Richards' Web site, the attorney had retained the law offices of Jaehoh Suh to represent Jon in connection with the immigration detainer.

"Mr. Suh successfully convinced the government to terminate all immigration proceedings and Mr. Jon was released from custody at approximately 8:30 p.m. today," the news release said.

In a motion filed Mar. 23 with the Beverly Hills Superior Court, Richards is seeking to have seven counts against Jon dismissed on the grounds "that their filings were intentionally delayed, violating the defendant's due process rights where a pre-filing delay of 3 years caused irreversible prejudice."

Jon had been arrested Mar. 6 by the Beverly Hills police. In his motion, Richards noted that Avery G. came forward on Mar. 16, two days after Jon's arrest was in the news, and filed a complaint, claiming that she had been raped and assaulted by the Indian fashion designer in July of 2004.

"Even though she was allegedly raped, she went to a modeling meeting the next morning after the assault and hung out in Los Angeles all day," Richards pointed out. "She then spent another night in Los Angeles at the defendant's apartment, then left the new morning."

Jon has no phone records or notes of his relationship with Avery G., Richards pointed out in his motion. "Those records were destroyed," he wrote.

Consequently, "by allowing the charges to be joined with the recent charges, he is seriously prejudiced by facing higher bail, increased sentence exposure, and a myriad of other legal prejudices simply due to this inexplicable delay in bringing the charges" against him, said Richards.

In an earlier motion filed with the court Mar. 16, Richards also sought to have another charge dismissed on the same grounds, arguing that "Natalie P. contended that on October 19, 2004, she was raped by the defendant."

As he stated, "the first time Natalie ever made a complaint to law enforcement was on May 4, 2005, some six months after the alleged October 19, 2004 incident." He then pointed out that on June 30, 2005, deputy district attorney Kevin Halligan interviewed Natalie P. and "the DA's office declined to prosecute due to lack of insufficient evidence."

Again, his client has no records of his relationship with Natalie P., the attorney asserted. In both motions, Richards contended that "these facts require a dismissal (of the charges) with prejudice or at the very least, a severance."

Although he was to be arraigned when he appeared in Beverly Hills Superior Court Mar. 19, Jon was charged with another 15 felony counts as well as five more misdemeanor charges which were added to the seven original sexual assault charges he already faced following his arrest on Mar. 6 by the Beverly Hills police.

Jon was originally charged with seven counts of rape and sexual assault between October 2004 and Mar. 5, 2007, and was arrested at his Beverly Hills condominium less than 24 hours after a woman filed charges of rape against him with the Beverly Hills police. Two more women later came forward and filed similar charges, the youngest being a 15-year-old girl.

Since his arrest, four more alleged victims, including a 17-year-old, came forward with more allegations, and additional charges were filed against Jon.

According to media reports, Jon's mother Shashi thanked those "who stood behind the fashion designer during the difficult hour." She was also said to be "bitter" that some news media vilified the designer "with all kinds of allegations."

"It was God's grace that we could bring him out. He is very tired," she reportedly said.

"Take My Breath Away" is the third single by American pop music singer Jessica Simpson, released from the album In This Skin in 2004. It is a cover of the classic hit by Berlin, written by Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock, with Simpson's version produced by billymann. Simpson chose to cover this song because she felt that it was the theme song of her relationship with her then husband, Nick Lachey. Simpson's version was also included on the compilation album Now That's What I Call Music! 16 (from the U.S. Now! series).

"Take My Breath Away" became a top-twenty hit on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as a top-ten hit on the Top 40 Tracks and Top 40 Mainstream charts. The song also became another number-one hit for Simpson on the Hot 100 Singles Sales.
