Movies to watch out in 2006

1) Don [Farhan Akhtar]Who is the bigger superstar? Who deserves to be the MOST POWERFUL person in the Bollywood industry? Who is the BEST entertainer of all? A lot of questions.....and be rest assured that entire media would jump on the comparison spree as soon the shooting of 'Don' begins. After all this may turn out to be the real BIG test for current superstar SRK to prove to the world that he is the best suited to match the steps with legendary Big B.....literally! Watch him doing that in 'Khaike Paan Banaraswaala! Mind our words; this Farhan Akhtar flick is going to be the most talked about film as the year progresses. Presence of Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal is only going to ignite the scene further.
2) Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna [Karan Johar]This one is yet another magnum opus in the making from the "King of Emotions" Karan Johar. Watch him spin a designer tale about Indians in 'phoren' locations in his larger than life extravaganza that has a mammoth starcast led by Big B, SRK, Abhishek, Rani, Preity and Arjun Rampal. Biggest family entertainer of the year that would be hot favorite for the NRI film buffs too, watch out for a bumper opening across globe for this multi crore tale. Also KANK as a short form of the movie would be sounding cute'n'fashionable soon just like a KKHH, K3G or a KHNH!
3) Krrish [Rakesh Roshan]'Krrish' would mark the return of Hrithik Roshan to the silver screen after a 2 year gap since 'Lakshya' [2004]. Supposed to be the costliest film of the year with ton loads of money bags spent solely on stunts and special effects, watch out for the 'jaadu' spun all over again to recreate the nostalgia of 'Koi Mil Gaya'. Hrithik-Priyanka 'jodi' sounds promising along with the original cast of Preity Zinta and Rekha. The movie is touted to be a stunner from day one and should maintain the successful success rate of producer-director Rakesh Roshan.
4) Dhoom 2 [Sanjay Gadhvi]Think 'Dhoom' and what one remembers is John Abraham, raging bikes and the smashing signature tune that formed a major part of the background score. And yes, in between there was rest of the starcast too. With 'Dhoom 2' things get bigger and even bigger with the entry of Hrithik and Ash hence soaring the expectations chart of the film further. With YRF as the force behind the movie and Abhishek Bachchan's towering presence, 'Dhoom 2' could be India's own 'Fast and The Furious'. And if you get lucky, there may even be Ash in her first ever bikini appearance!
5) Fanaah [Kunal Kohli]There is no word at all about the movie's plot or the characters played by the principal starcast of Aamir Khan, Kajol, Tabu and Shiney Ahuja. But still this Kunal Kohli movie has packed so much punch with it since its announcement due to two major factors - Aamir-Kajol pairing and YRF-Kunal Kohli coming together again after 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge' and 'Hum Tum'. After a below-expectation 'Neal N Nikki', there is a lot expected from this biggie by YRF.
6) Family [Raj Kumar Santoshi]'Family' was one of the most anticipated movies of 2005 but its delay has resulted in the movie coming a little lower down the list for 2006. Still the movie has enough merits to keep it in the news, most notably being Raj Kumar Santoshi, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar returning after 'Khakee'. Producer Keshu's son Aryaman could be a dark horse in his debut film but Big B seems to be on way to a great year beginning with a towering central role.
7) Munnabhai Meets Mahatma Gandhi [Rajkumar Hirani]Lovable Munnabhai [Sanjay Dutt] and Circuit [Arshad Warsi] are back again in this sequel to Munnabhai M.B.B.S and this time around they have none other than Mahatma Gandhi as company. Is it a social satire or an outright comedy? Is it going to touch upon a topical issue or will it be a plain laugh riot? We don't know, but one thing we are sure of is that the movie is going to be a craze all over once it is ready for release, both amongst the multiplex audience and the single screen regulars. There are good expectations that Vidhu Vinod Chopra-Rajkumar Hirani would be spinning yet another entertaining tale that could be watched with an entire family.
8) Rang De Basanti [Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra]Aamir Khan's 'Mangal Pandey' was the hottest movie of 2005 but his 'Rang De Basanti' finds a place quite lower down in the order in this list. Expectedly so because the movie is neither being promoted as THE Aamir Khan movie nor has there been an extraordinary buzz and hype around it. Probably director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra wants his product to speak for itself after the downslide 'Mangal Pandey' had after an extraordinary opening and hence is looking for a 'normal' release. The music may have hardly picked up till now but the movie's unique storyline should tilt it's fate in either direction. Keep your fingers crossed!
9) Salaam-E-Ishq: A Tribute to Love [Nikhil Advani]Mark our words - this 'Diwali' release is on its way to be THE hottest movie of last quarter of 2006. The announcement of a mammoth starcast [Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Akshaye Khanna, John Abraham, Sohail Khan, Juhi Chawla, Priyanka Chopra, Ayesha Takia, Vidya Balan and Sonali Bendre] reminds of J.P. Dutta's L.O.C that had entire Bollywood camping for the movie's shoot. Nikhil Advani's rumored Indianised version of 'Love Actually' may not have achieved that big a feat but the movie is still one of the BIGGEST ever in the history of Bollywood! Would Nilkhil Advani be able to benefit most out of his 'now famous' 'How To make a successful fim' book?

10) Phir Hera Pheri [Neeraj Vohra]Bring your handkerchiefs along for this 'Hera Pheri' sequel as it is going to make you cry while laughing out loud!. The only sequel in the entire Top 10 list that is not directed by the person behind the original [Krrish, Dhoom 2, Munnabhai Meets Mahatma Gandhi], this tale of Baburao [Paresh Rawal], Raju [Akshay Kumar] and Shyam [Suneil Shetty] boasts of a huge comic starcast [Johny Lever, Shakti Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, Rajpal Yadav, Sharat Saxena, Suresh Menon, Rakesh Bedi, Vivek Shauq, Dinesh Hingoo and Javed Khan], which should be a record of sorts. Directed by Neeraj Vohra, 'Phir Hera Pheri' is also important for Firoz Nadiadwala who would be looking for a good success after below expectation BO outcome of 'Aan' and 'Deewane Huye Paagal!
